Fields of Color is a vibrant oil and cold wax painting that combines vivid colors and geometric shapes to create a patchwork effect reminiscent of aerial landscapes. The canvas is divided into two contrasting areas: a large expanse of soft, lime green occupies the upper half, while a network of intersecting rectangles and squares in shades of blue, pink, red, and white fills the lower portion. These colorful shapes are arranged in an irregular grid, with each section slightly offset from the others, giving the impression of layered or tilled fields viewed from above.
The brushstrokes vary in direction and texture, adding depth and movement within each color block. Small patches of black, white, and hints of pale lavender and turquoise accentuate the composition, creating areas of visual interest that break up the larger color fields. Fine lines and subtle marks crisscross the canvas, suggesting boundaries, paths, or intersections that lend a sense of rhythm to the piece.
Fields of Color captures the essence of an abstracted landscape, inviting viewers to imagine a patchwork of fields or a fragmented map. The contrasting lime green above and the denser colors below create a tension between open space and structured form, symbolizing the meeting of natural and cultivated environments. The piece may evoke themes of division and unity, as each shape maintains its individuality while contributing to the harmonious whole.
With its dynamic colors and grid-like structure, Fields of Color can be seen as a meditation on the beauty of landscapes and the way they are shaped and organized. This vibrant work encourages viewers to reflect on the interplay between natural space and human intervention, celebrating the vibrant, diverse patterns found in both nature and imagination.
